LUNA was featured in the article “The Riddle of the Bateka” in the 2020, Fall No. 69, issue of The Concordian.
Six Bateka dinghies were built by A&B in 1956, LUNA is 5152, the first of that series. Once for sale on the roadside in Blue Hills, ME, she eventually found her way to Ballentine’s Boat Shop where she underwent a restoration to serve as a tender to the 39’ Concordia yawl WESTRAY. Nearly 200 hours were spent bringing this classic dinghy to like new condition with an intention for longevity. All structural issues were addressed and all paint was stripped and refinished. The hull was AwlGripped inside and out. Mahogany seats are stained and varnished with multiple coats of Epiphanes varnish. Floor boards are oiled. New gunnel guard is installed on the rail so she is ready to serve as tender or tuck up on the deck for storage.
