The Concordia 31 is a perfect compromise of traditional appearance, thoughtful design, and strong construction. Designed in 1938 by W.B. Harris and Waldo Howland, the Concordia 31 was intended to be a quality built, comfortable cruiser with surprising performance at a reasonable cost.

SECRET, built in 1967, is a beautiful example of the classic simplicity of Pre – WWII design. Suffering fire damage in 1988, SECRET was restored, including new decks and cabin trunk structure, to excellent condition and addressing problems of a boat her age before they could appear. After her restoration, she received the Phoenix Award at the 1990 Museum of Yachting Classic Yacht Regatta as well as the 1992 Wooden Boat Show Judges Award for Best Restoration.

Construction:

SECRET's hull is carvel planked with 1" white cedar over steam-bent oak frames and backbone. She was refastened below the water line in 2001 with silicon bronze. The last survey, 2006, found her stem, keel, deadwood, horn timber and planking all to be in good solid condition.

The cabin trunk is mahogany with an oak interior framing. Decks, wood planked, and cabin top are covered with canvas and painted buff.

The ballast is external iron with additional lead trim forward of the mast. Keel bolts were also replaced in 2000.

Sails & Rigging:

SECRET is a fractional rig with a varnished Sitka Spruce hollow section mast. Boom, jib club and spinnaker pole are of solid construction Sitka Spruce and varnished. Boomkin and bowsprit are also of varnished spruce.

All mast fittings are of cast bronze. She has stainless steel standing rigging with bronze turnbuckles.

All running rigging is three-strand dacron.

Moving forward, the main salon has Concordia style folding berths on both starboard and port. There is a fixed drop-leaf table amidships and plenty o above the seating. The main cabin has great natural light with the addition of a opening butterfly hatch and 2 fixed ports in each cabin side for storage.

Continuing forward to port in an enclosed head, with a composting Airhead toilet, and hanging locker to starboard. The forward cabin berths have been removed and storage space has been added.
